Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools

The Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools (the Guidelines) define the nutrition standard that schools are required to use to determine what food and beverages can be sold to students.

When ready-to-eat food and beverages (that come with nutrition labelling information) are sold to students, the Brand Name Food List helps schools make sure they meet the nutrition standard established by the BC Ministries of Education and Health.

Nutritional Guidelines for Vending Machines in B.C. Public Buildings

The Nutritional Guidelines for Vending Machines in B.C. Public Buildings aim to increase the range of healthier food and beverage choices in vending machines. The guidelines define which foods should be sold most, sometimes or not at all based on their ingredients and nutrient content. All Ministries are responsible for implementing this policy in their respective organizations. Other organizations with vending machines or concessions, such as municipal recreation and community centers, are strongly encouraged to adopt this standard.
